Humanitarian
According to UNICEF’s 2009 Humanitarian Action Report, 23-37% of North Korean children under the age of 5 are moderately to severely underweight/stunted. WMM strives to feed as many of the vulnerable orphans and school children as possible.
Quality of Life Concerns
In addition to addressing immediate hunger needs, the humanitarian committee is committed to improving quality of life by providing necessities such as ointment, antibiotics, vitamins, powdered milk, diapers, briquettes for heating, clothes, blankets and wallpaper, supplies for building maintenance and repair, etc.
Without a solid roof, walls, and windows, the children will not be properly insulated. Without briquettes, the floors they sleep on will be cold and potentially lead to colds. Without proper medications and antibiotics, the orphans may be relegated to separate rooms for the dying. Most of these little ones do not have fatal diseases; they just don’t have access to treatment.
Malnutrition, poverty, lack of health and education resources, fragile food security–WMM aims to address these issues on a project by project basis.
Sandra Suh has established a firm foundation for WMM through her decades-long dedication to service. As such, WMM has been granted continual access into the reclusive country where it currently operates bread and noodle factories, equips an orphanage, feeds school children, and effectively delivers food and aid materials in as humane, efficient, responsible manner possible.
Our Pledge
WMM is run primarily by volunteers so that nearly every dollar received is used to help the people of North Korea. The Humanitarian Committee receives goods in-kind worth tens of thousands of dollars, multiplying the power of every donated dollar an average of 7-fold. We sincerely appreciate your trust in our organization and work hard to ensure that your money goes to the people—especially the children—of North Korea.
